Sean Connolly, one of Australia and New Zealand’s most renowned chefs, opened his namesake restaurant at the Dubai Opera earlier this year and diners are in for a treat. Set in luxury with brilliant 360 degree views, this beautiful restaurant has much to offer. A contemporary brasserie offering produce driven, no-frills attached delicious food – It is a gem of a restaurant located in the heart of Downtown Dubai.
As we entered into the open, airy and bright restaurant to try out their newly introduced lunch menu, we were led to our table by the terrace by our gracious hostess. They offer a restaurant area, a bar and an open terrace with views of the Burj Khalifa. Perfect for a drink, lunch, pre-theatre menu or a romantic dinner. The restaurant is of contemporary design, oozing class in both the architecture and cutlery, hand-picked from around the world by Chef Connolly himself. We began our lunch with the oceanic influences of Sean Connolly’s menu, the classic Sashimi Platter, a delicious start to a wonderful meal.
We relied on recommendations from the staff for the remainder of our meal and were in for a delightful treat. First up was a refreshing Watermelon Salad, with strawberries, tomatoes, mint feta and a hint of red chillies, absolutely delectable. Indulging in one salad too many for our choice, the next one was even better. An entree of Grilled White Peaches with Buffalo Mozzarella and Pistachio Pesto, a great medley of flavors. We sipped on a virgin mojito and espresso based mocktail while waiting for our mains, and my server was quick to notice that I had barely tried my drink. In a flash he was by my table asking if he could replace my drink and brought out a delicious apple based mocktail. This requires a special mention for the outstanding service which is incomparable to restaurants in Dubai – We were very impressed with the level of attention.
We moved on to try their signature ‘Orgy of Mushrooms’ – Buffalo ricotta gnocchi served with different kinds of mushrooms in a delectable sauce. We loved this main course only to be served our second – A perfectly cooked Rib-Eye Fillet with the best hollandaise sauce we have ever tried. We ended the meal on a sweet note with their signature Hazelnut Semi Freddo, popcorn ice cream topped with salted caramel sauce, an indulging and tantalizing dessert.
