Li Jiang, located at The Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi Grand Canal is a modern Southeast Asian restaurant, adorned in rich red textiles the restaurant features an open kitchen and a spanning outdoor terrace which boasts uninterrupted views of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
Li Jiang meaning ‘beautiful river’ in Chinese, reflects the resort’s location on the Grand Canal. Whetting the appetite for all things spicy, authentic and oriental, today all eyes turn East as we are visiting Li Jiang to experience their Saturday Brunch.
As we enter Li Jiang the restaurant is already bustling with brunch goers and the tunes from the live DJ gets us into that weekend mood. We take a seat by the large double doors where we have a great view of Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
The brunch is buffet style, although to begin guests are welcomed with a selection of freshly cooked Dim Sum which is brought to the table. The Seafood Dim Sum is our favorite and we ask for a second helping.
From the buffet we start with a selection of fresh salads, assorted Asian Greens in Soya Garlic Sauce, Yam Talay; Thai Seafood Salad and Papaya Salad. All the salads are fresh and bursting with flavor. Although nothing quite beats the classic Papaya Salad.
I then move onto the hot buffet items and enjoy a helping of Lamp Chops, Marinated Tiger Prawns, Chicken and Lamb Satay. The Chicken Satay is my favorite cooked to perfection, the sauce further compliments the flavors. From the bustling open kitchen, the expert chefs serve up a tempting variety of Pan-Asian delicacies, including authentic rice and noodles. We enjoy a few portions of both.
Admittedly I am having a more enjoyable experience than my pescatarian companion whose options are limited. The Saturday brunch is more catered to the carnivores amongst us, those who are vegetarian would struggle to find dishes they could eat.
Over to the desserts, Hot Rice Milk Pudding, Carrot Halwa Linzer Tart, Pecan Nut Crème Brûlée Mango Tatin and Coconut and Pandan Leaf Opera, to name a few, make for a tempting array of desserts. We enjoy the Mango Tatin and the Hot Rice Milk Pudding both are pleasing.
The service at Li Jiang is warm and welcoming. The staff do well to check in and ensure we are enjoying our experience without interrupting. Our waitress is extremely accommodating and upon learning about my companions’ dietary requirements she kindly sends a few more portions of the Seafood Dim Sum to the table.
The quality of the cuisine is superb and although the brunch is a buffet concept it is clear through the taste of the cuisine that the culinary team are extremely talented. Ideally, we would like to return to try the a la carte evening menu to really see what Li jiang has to offer.
