Meet The Band, Wave

Jazz Bar’s latest band Wave have already made quite an impression on Abu Dhabi’s nightlife scene. This energetic band consists of young, talented members, all with impressive musical experience.  Led by Julianne Costa, a singer, songwriter from Los Angeles, California, USA.  Julianne was born into a family of entertainers and made her debut at age five.  Graduating from Santa Susana Performing Arts High School, she walked with honours and won awards such as, Outstanding Vocalist, Vocal Achievement and Soprano of the Year.

She received her vocal training from Monica Margolis who also coached LeAnn Rimes, X Factor and the American Idol cast.

Julianne’s voice can be heard in films such as Deep Sea (starring Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet) as well as other works for Miramax records and MTV. She has worked with top talents around the globe, including Danny Elfman, Deborah Lurie, Jim Belushi, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Kimberly Willams-Paisley, Larry Joe Campball, Brad Paisley and many others.

Juianne has performed at famous venues such as Roxy, Key Club, Sloppy Joe’s and MTV. She has also worked on ABC’s popular sitcom According to Jim as an onset acting and vocal coach. When asked about her experience working on this hit sitcom she said, “I am so proud to be a part of the few shows families can sit and watch together. I am very blessed to be getting paid to do what I love.”

Kim Chorel, Wave’s lead vocalist is French Canadian born. She had her first experiences as a singer during her teenage years and fronted an acoustic duet of her own. Kim is a very energetic performer and loves interacting with the audience as well as her band mates. Kim is sure to rock your world with her dynamic energy and generosity towards the crowd!

Ivan Flowers, also a lead vocalist was born in Berrien Springs, Michigan and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Known as Shy to his friends he attended Michigan State University majoring in Political Science. Even though he was studying to be a lawyer his true passion has always been music. Shy began his musical career as a lead vocalist performing on the Las Vegas Strip at major hotels and casinos such as The Venetian, Mandalay Bay and Caesars Palace. Impressively Shy has also worked as a backing singer for the popular RnB star Ne-Yo.

Delbert Mack, Wave’s drummer and a native of Beaumont, Texas is a skilful percussionist, producer and songwriter with a progressive edge niching his mark on the music industry.  Honing his craft at Lamar University and the prestigious Musicians Institute in Los Angeles, Delbert has contributed his skills to such musicians as jazz great Kyle Turner, gospel sensation Kathy Taylor and Sony Music recording artist Lil’ Flip.

John Viers, Wave’s bassist has always gravitated toward the bass lines of songs.  Growing up watching his father, who is also a bass player, he decided that he was destined to play bass. Born in Huntsville, Alabama, John has been a studio bass player since he was a teenager and has played for many artists around the United States.

Charles Barnes, Wave’s keyboardist was born in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. In the beginning, music was just a hobby for Charles as it was the norm in his family. Just about every person within his family has either played and instrument or has some type of musical gift. Charles is no exception. In middle school he joined the school band, it was there his interest for music flourished. Charles taught himself to play the keyboard during his high school years.

Today these talented individuals make up Wave. Wave’s colourful music includes classic golden oldies spanning from Mary J. Blige and Anita Baker, to modern artists from Taylor Swift to Justin Timberlake.

Wave are currently playing at Jazz Bar and Dining, Hilton Abu Dhabi.
