Catch, Review

Located at the St Regis, Nation Riviera’s private beach club on Abu Dhabi’s bustling Corniche, you will discover a restaurant that oozes style and sophistication.

Catch restaurant and lounge specializes in seafood from local and international waters.  Set on the backdrop of the Arabian Gulf, Catch offers views across the Corniche what better setting to introduce a seafood restaurant. As we enter Catch we are warmly greeted by the team. They take us through the restaurant with a sense of pride and enthusiasm that was definitely absorbing to witness.

With its interior design inspired by Mother of Pearl, Catch embodies the strong maritime and pearl diving tradition of the region in a contemporary and rich décor. The hostess is dressed in an elegant dress that fits adequately with the décor.

With such great weather this time of year we decide to sit outside. The smooth tranquil beats add to the ambiance. We were introduced to the menu by a Catch light card, which I may add is very quirky, a nice touch indeed for viewing the menu in the dark. The team guides us through the menu and advises us on the best selling dishes.

To select our drinks we are given an I Pad, a good tool as we like to see what the beverages look like before we make our selection.

Whilst deciding on our appetisers we take in the view and sip on our Voss water, chilled to perfection.  We chose the braised beef short ribs with pomelo, scallions and sesame seeds. The ribs flake off our fork and melt in our mouth following this is the foie gras terrine and passion coffee jelly on toasted brioche with honey a very generous portion that can easily be shared. The presentation of the dish was of very high standard and one can identify the sense of pride the chef and the team take on their dishes. After the foie gras we then sample the blow torch dynamite roll with deep fried salmon roll, pickled radish with creamy crab, tobiko with a hint of teriyaki which was delicious and activated my taste buds up another level leaving me eagerly awaiting my next dish.

The next two appetisers were upon us. Deep fried calamari with chilli salt, Szechuan peppers scallions. Together with deep fried spicy prawn with deep chilli spice coating complimented with cashew nuts. This dish offered a great combination of sweet and salty. Two dishes I highly recommend.

Then the main course was on the horizon. We ordered grilled seabass- this is one of Catch restaurant bestselling dishes. The dish was presented table side in a bag of steam. Firstly grilled then steamed the technique allows the seabass to keep its identifiable taste and freshness. Served with sautéed steamed vegetables and lemon water sauce on the side. The seabass is imported freshly from Greece and the taste was so fresh it left us satisfied and content. The other main course dish consisted of simply prepared pan seared scallops, with wild rice risotto, dry caviar yuzu saffron butter sauce. The saffron is easily identifiable and dominated this dish.

Catch has two open kitchens, a panoramic glass kitchen and a sushi bar allowing guests to interact watch as ingredients are transformed into delectable dishes.

With an ocean theme inside the restaurant and projected images of marine life on the wall Catch offers a very unique and a charming dining experience.

Finally for desert we opted for Moshi ice cream selections serving a delightful classic array of flavours from mango, coconut, chocolate and vanilla. A must try after a fascinating and pleasing night at Catch.
