Acapulco Fridays Brunch, Review

This month the Dining and Nightlife Abu Dhabi team headed to Yas Island for the Acapulco Fridays Brunch at Amerigos Mexican Bar and Restaurant.

Amerigos offers indoor dining and outdoor dining. With the weather being exceptionally good this time of year, we took the opportunity to enjoy our brunch poolside, overlooking the beautiful Yas Links and the Arabian Gulf.

As we arrive at Amerigos we feel that we have left Abu Dhabi and travelled to Acapulco itself. The brunch has been set up to give guests a feel of Mexico, with sombreros, maracas and cactus empathizing the theme.

Unable to contain ourselves we head over to the food stalls. The first stop, the ceviche and guacamole station. Guacamole is available in two options traditional or con cangrejo (with crab) whilst the ceviche boasts three tempting delights, shrimp, tuna or seabass. We opt for the traditional guacamole and the tuna ceviche, both are prepared fresh. The ceviche is amazing, so much so we go back for a second helping.

Also worth mentioning is the salad bar, yes seriously. The salad bar offers a selection of great tasting fresh salads, you can’t leave this brunch without trying the nopal salad. A salad made from cactus, it doesn’t get any more authentic.

Next stop the taco and quesadillas station. We opt for the beef quesadillas, the folded flour tortilla is bursting with melted cheese and just gets better with every bite. The quesadillas comes with the option of three fillings beef, chicken or chilli poblano. The tacos are also available in three options, chicken, beef or gobernador.

The grill has been tempting us all afternoon with the scent of freshly grilled meat filling the air, so we ventured down Acapulco street and make our way to the grill station. The grill station offers a selection of lamb chops, chicken, beef sirloin and large prawns. To complement the grills, a selection of pinto beans, chili dusted potatoes, Mexican rice and corn on the cob. We opt for the succulent prawns and top them with a hearty serving of garlic mojo de ajo ajillo oil. Delicious.

Each dish has been infused to create mouth-watering flavours that will take you on a culinary journey to the heart of Mexico.

For dessert you will find churros, a selection of ice cream, popsicles and fruit salad. The churros are a must, the crisp churros are served warm and drizzled in a sweet caramel sauce, a great way to end a fantastic brunch.

Featuring authentic Mexican dishes served in a flamboyant and energetic atmosphere the experience is only further complimented by Amerigos attentive team.

As part of the brunch package guests are also invited to make use of the pool. Although we did take our swimming gear we never made it to the pool. The scrumptious brunch left us feeling rather full, maybe next time.
